If I was given no budget to create a display of public art, I would not create a sculpture or other three dimensional display, but a mural.  A large and eye-appealing mural.  I would place it somewhere in Downtown Detroit, or on the edge of downtown where a great number of people would be able to view it without going too far from their destination.  The mural would have to be very big.  My view is to have it somehow either separated in two, or two themes mixed into one.  One would be a hardworking blue collar man who is at the end of a long days work, and the other is a white collar man in a suit who also seems to be ending a long stressful day.  But in the background, we see the beautiful attractions, stadiums, and other highlights of the Detroit area.  At the top of the mural it will say "WE ARE DETROIT" and at the bottom it will say "WE WORK HARD. WE BOUNCE BACK".  This mural is something to give the people of Detroit hope.  It will be a rallying call to all the citizens that we will not give up.  We were founded on hard work and that's how we will triumph once again.  This mural is just a subtle reminder to the people that even though we are experiencing some rough times, we will bounce back and Detroit will roar once again.
